This former bauxite quarry has transformed over time into a vivid red canyon surrounding an emerald-green lake—an unforgettable contrast of colors shaped by nature and history. As you explore the area, your guide will share the story of the quarry’s mining past and the unique geology that created this otherworldly landscape. It’s the perfect place to start the hike and capture incredible photos before heading toward the Adriatic coast. 30 minutes ⏺︎ BAIA DELLE ORTE Your second stop is the wild and unspoiled Baia delle Orte, one of the Adriatic coast’s hidden gems. Known for its crystal-clear waters, rugged cliffs, and peaceful atmosphere, it's a favorite spot for locals seeking untouched nature. Enjoy a refreshing swim in its turquoise bay, then relax with a coffee break at the seaside kiosk overlooking the water. Baia delle Orte also lies along a key migratory route, adding a unique natural charm to this stunning coastal stop. 1 hour ⏺︎ TORRE DEL SERPE Your next stop is the striking Torre del Serpe, a medieval watchtower dramatically perched on a cliff above the Adriatic. Once part of Otranto’s coastal defense system, this tower played a key role in spotting Saracen pirate attacks and warning the town below. Perfect for photos and for imagining the centuries of maritime history that unfolded here. 10 minutes ⏺︎ OTRANTO Your hike ends in the beautiful seaside town of Otranto, Italy’s easternmost gem. Here you’ll have free time to wander the whitewashed old town, explore the stunning Cathedral with its famous 12th-century mosaic floor, or simply relax by the sea. Enjoy a swim, browse the artisan shops, or savor a fresh seafood lunch overlooking the water.
