⏺︎ LECCE The tour begins with a short ride through the narrow alleys of Lecce’s old town, surrounded by elegant Baroque architecture. • 15 minutes • ⏺︎ STERNATIA Enjoy a one-hour ride (18 km / 11.2 miles) through the countryside, passing ancient olive groves and traditional Masserias (fortified farmhouses), until you reach Sternatia. This village is one of 11 towns that make up Grecia Salentina, home to the Griko people — an ethnic Greek minority who still speak a dialect dating back to the Byzantine era. In Sternatia, you will: • Visit a 15th-century underground olive oil mill • Explore Palazzo Granafei and the main church • Visit a modern olive oil producer (with olive oil tasting) • Take a break at a local bar for a traditional Caffè Leccese and Pasticciotto • 1 hour • ⏺︎ FRANTOIO IPOGEO With a local guide, explore a 15th-century underground olive oil mill carved into soft limestone. These ancient mills once produced lamp oil, exported across Europe to light cities like London and Amsterdam. When gas lighting emerged in the 19th century, the trade declined. After the visit, you’ll stop at a modern olive oil producer to taste fresh extra virgin olive oil. • 45 minutes • ⏺︎ CHIESA PARROCCHIALE DI MARIA SANTISSIMA ASSUNTA Discover this 18th-century Baroque church, a gem in the heart of Sternatia. Inside, delicate frescoes decorate the walls, echoing centuries of local devotion and history. • 15 minutes • ⏺︎ LECCE Return to Lecce on a different route, cycling 18 km (11.2 miles) back to the bike shop. • 1 hour •
